I often get asked, why is your blog called the Tattooed Therapist? Well, besides the obvious reason of having many tattoos, I chose this name to raise awareness of the stigma that tattooed therapists receive not only from clients but other therapists as well. Tattoos do not make a bad or unprofessional therapist. What makes a bad or unprofessional therapist are those people who perpetuate the above stigma. I wanted to have a space to write freely about mental health topics that are important to me so that I can help others.
I understand that navigating mental health can be really difficult if you are not aware of the resources that are available to you. Understanding the difference between diagnoses, the sxs of diagnoses, and different treatment approaches available is overwhelming for the layperson who has not been trained in this field. Not knowing how to support oneself or loved who ones who are struggling can be frustrating.
In the Mental Health Corner, you will find various topics that are related to the following areas:
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Dissociation
Attachment issues
Depression
Anxiety
Grief
Anger Management
Substance Abuse
Military
First Responders
Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Clinical Hypnosis
...various other mental health related topics.
If you don't see what you are looking for, please send me a message about the topic you would like to know more about. I am always looking for suggestions.
I would love to collaborate with other mental health professionals who also utilize blogs to help inform others about mental health issues that are important to them. If you or anyone you know writes mental health blogs and are interested in sharing posts, please email me at info@harmoniawellnessmhc.com
